Squirrels In AtticSquirrels can be nice in nature, but when they get into your home they can do some serious damage.  In New Jersey, Squirrels typically have grayish colored fur.  Squirrels are most active in the morning when they are searching for food.  They typically feed on nuts and seeds they find around your home, mulch, yard and trash.

Damage Caused by Squirrels in New Jersey

If Squirrels gain access inside your home, let say your attic, they can cause serious damage.  They love to chew.  Squirrels will chew on wires, duck work, wood, doors, molding, pipes and more.  If you hear running around in your attic, chances are you have a squirrel or other type of wildlife that got in.

In addition to the damage that they can cause from chewing, Squirrels also leave behind a trail or feces and urine where they travel.  The urine and fecal matter can become absorbed into insulation and create bad odors.

Squirrel Removal in Monmouth & Ocean County

The best method to rid a squirrel is trapping.  Depending upon how the Squirrel gained entry, a traditional trap can be used to trap then relocate the Squirrel.  Another method that we use is the installation of a one way door or cone.  This will allow the Squirrel to exit but prevent reentry.  Note that a homeowner should never try to seal up hole without first ensuring that the Squirrel has be removed or exited the home.  Squirrels that become trapped in an attic or wall can cause very severe damage in an attempt to get out!

Once the Squirrel is removed, it is important to repair or correct the original point of entry how the Squirrel got into the home in the first place.
